Tire Replacement with TPMS
If a tire is flat, the low tire pressure and position warning lights will come on. We recommend that the system be inspected by an authorized Kia dealer.
CAUTION
We recommend that you use a sealant approved by Kia.
Sealant must be removed from the tire pressure sensor and wheel when replacing the tire with a new one.
Each wheel is equipped with a tire pressure sensor mounted inside the tire behind the valve stem. You must use TPMS-specific wheels. It is recommended that your tires be serviced by an authorized Kia dealer.
If you drive the vehicle for about 10 minutes at speeds above 25 km/h after replacing the under-inflated tire with the spare tire, the following will occur:
• The TPMS malfunction indicator may flash for approximately 1 minute and then remain continuously illuminated, because the TPMS sensor is not installed on the spare wheel.
It may not be possible to identify low tire pressure simply by looking at the tire. Always use a good quality tire pressure gauge to measure tire pressure. Note that a warm tire (after driving) will show a higher pressure reading than a cold tire (after the vehicle has been stationary for at least 3 hours and driven less than 1.6 km (1 mile) during this 3-hour period).
Allow the tire to cool before measuring the inflation pressure. Always make sure the tire is cold before inflating it to the recommended pressure.
A cold tire means the vehicle has been parked for 3 hours and has been driven less than 1.6 km (1 mile) during this 3-hour period.
CAUTION
We recommend that you use a sealant approved by Kia if your vehicle is equipped with a Tire Pressure Monitoring System. Liquid sealant may damage the tire pressure sensors.
CAUTION - TPMS
- The TPMS cannot warn you of serious and sudden tire damage caused by external factors such as nails or road debris.
- If you feel the vehicle becoming unstable, immediately release the accelerator pedal, apply the brakes gradually with light force, and slowly move to a safe location off the road.
WARNING - Jack Safety
Tampering with, modifying, or disabling the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) components may prevent the system from warning the driver of low tire pressure conditions and/or TPMS malfunctions. Tampering with, modifying, or disabling the TPMS components may void the warranty for this part of the vehicle.
CAUTION - FOR EUROPE
- Do not modify the vehicle, as it may interfere with the TPMS function.
- Wheels available on the market do not have a TPMS sensor. For your safety, we recommend that you have replacement parts installed by an authorized Kia dealer.
- If you use wheels from the market, use TPMS sensors approved by a Kia dealer. If your vehicle is not equipped with TPMS sensors or the TPMS does not operate properly, you may fail the periodic vehicle inspection conducted in your country.
❈ All vehicles sold in the European market during the period below must be equipped with TPMS.
- New vehicle model: from November 1, 2012 ~
- Current vehicle model: from November 1, 2014 ~ (based on vehicle registration)
