1. To install the fuel filler cap, turn it clockwise until it clicks. This indicates that the cap is securely tightened.
2. To close the fuel filler door, press on the edge of the door. Make sure it is securely closed.
WARNING - Refueling
- Pressurized fuel may spray out and cover your clothing or skin, creating a risk of fire and burns. Always remove the fuel filler cap carefully and slowly. If the cap releases fuel or you hear a hissing sound, wait until the hissing stops before fully removing the cap.
- Do not "top off" the tank after the nozzle automatically shuts off during refueling.
- Always make sure the fuel filler cap is installed securely to prevent fuel from spilling in the event of an accident.
WARNING - Fuel Filling Hazard.
Automotive fuel is highly flammable. When refueling, please observe the following precautions. Failure to follow these precautions may result in serious personal injury, severe burns, or death from fire or explosion.
- Read and follow all posted warnings at the filling station.
- Before refueling, locate the emergency fuel shut-off switch, if equipped, at the filling station.
- Before touching the fuel nozzle, you must eliminate any potentially dangerous static electricity discharge by touching another metal part of the vehicle, at a safe distance away from the fuel filler neck, nozzle, or other source of gasoline.
- Do not re-enter the vehicle once you have started refueling, as you may generate static electricity by touching, rubbing, or sliding against any object or fabric (polyester, satin, nylon, etc.) capable of producing static electricity. A static discharge may ignite fuel vapors, causing rapid combustion. If you must re-enter the vehicle, you must again eliminate any potentially dangerous static discharge by touching a metal part of the vehicle, away from the fuel filler neck, nozzle, or other gasoline source.
- When using an approved portable fuel container, always place the container on the ground before refueling. A static electricity discharge from the container may ignite fuel vapors and cause a fire. Once refueling has started, maintain contact with the vehicle until refueling is complete.
Use only portable plastic fuel containers designed for transporting and storing gasoline. - Do not use mobile phones while refueling. Electrical current and/or electronic interference from cellular phones may potentially ignite fuel vapors, causing a fire.
- Always turn the engine off when refueling. Sparks produced by electrical components associated with the engine may ignite fuel vapors and cause a fire. After refueling is complete, make sure the fuel filler cap and fuel filler door are securely closed before starting the engine.
- DO NOT use matches or a lighter, DO NOT SMOKE, and do not leave a lit cigarette in the vehicle while at a service station, especially during refueling. Automotive fuel is highly flammable and may ignite, resulting in a fire.
- If a fire occurs during refueling, leave the vehicle area immediately, contact the filling station attendant, and then contact the local fire department. Follow all safety instructions they provide.
CAUTION
- Be sure to refuel your vehicle according to the "Fuel Requirements" recommended in Chapter 1.
- If the fuel filler cap needs replacement, be sure to use parts designed for replacement on your vehicle. An incorrect fuel filler cap may cause serious malfunction of the fuel system or emission control system. For more details, we recommend that you contact an authorized Kia dealer.
- Do not spill fuel on the exterior surfaces of the vehicle. Any type of fuel spilled on painted surfaces may damage the paint.
- After refueling, make sure the fuel cap is installed securely to prevent fuel spillage in the event of an accident.
