Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) System

Inhibitor Switch Description and Operation

~1min read

Description

The inhibitor switch is installed on the transmission case. It includes an electrical circuit with a switch plate and is directly connected to the shift lever through the shift cable. When the driver moves the shift lever, the contact point on the switch plate changes, the electrical current flow changes, and the gear selected by the driver is engaged. In addition, the inhibitor switch cuts power to the starter circuit to prevent the engine from starting if the driver attempts to start the engine in any range other than P or N.
