Noise and Smoke
When the airbags deploy, they make a loud noise and leave smoke and powder in the air inside the vehicle. This is normal and is the result of the airbag inflator igniting. After airbag deployment, you may experience significant breathing discomfort due to contact of your chest with both the seat belt and airbag, as well as from inhaling smoke and powder. Open your doors and/or windows as soon as possible after the impact to reduce discomfort and prevent prolonged exposure to smoke and powder.
Although smoke and powder are non-toxic, they may cause skin irritation (eyes, nose, throat, etc.). If contact occurs, wash with cold water immediately, and consult a doctor if symptoms persist.
WARNING
- When the airbags deploy, the air around the airbag components in the steering wheel and/or instrument panel and/or both side roof rails above the front and rear doors becomes very hot. To prevent injury, do not touch the airbag module components immediately after the airbag has inflated.
- Do not install or place accessories near airbag deployment areas, such as the instrument panel, windows, pillars and roof rails.
