Your vehicle is equipped with a side airbag for each front seat. The purpose of the airbag is to provide the driver and/or front passenger with additional protection beyond that provided by the seat belt alone. Side airbags are designed to deploy only in certain side collisions, depending on the severity, angle, speed and point of impact of the collision. Side airbags are not designed to deploy in all side impact situations.

WARNING

Do not allow passengers to lean their heads or bodies against the door, rest their arms on the door, extend their arms out of the window, or place objects between the door and passengers when they are seated in seats equipped with side and/or curtain airbags.

WARNING

  • The side airbag is a supplement to the driver and passenger seat belt system and is not a replacement for it. Therefore, always wear your seat belt while the vehicle is in motion. Airbags deploy only in certain side impact conditions severe enough to cause significant injury to the vehicle occupants.
  • For best protection from the side airbag system and to avoid injury from side airbag deployment, both front seat passengers must sit upright with the seat belt properly fastened. The driver's hands should be placed on the steering wheel at the 9:00 and 3:00 positions. Passengers' hands and wrists should be placed on their laps.
  • Do not use aftermarket seat covers.
  • The use of seat covers may reduce or prevent the effectiveness of the system.
  • To prevent unexpected side airbag deployment that may cause injury, avoid striking the side impact sensor while the ignition is on.
  • If the seat or seat cover is damaged, we recommend that the system be serviced by an authorized Kia dealer.

WARNING - Do Not Attach Objects

  • Do not place any objects on the airbag or between the airbag and yourself. Also do not attach any objects around the airbag area that may interfere with deployment, such as doors, side door glass, front and rear pillars.
  • Do not place any objects between the door and the seat. They may become dangerous projectiles if the side airbag deploys.
  • Do not install any accessories on or near the side airbags.
