Front Passenger Airbag ON/OFF Switch

The front passenger airbag can be deactivated using the front passenger airbag ON/OFF switch if a child restraint is installed on the front passenger seat or if the front passenger seat is not occupied.
For your child's safety, the front passenger airbag must be deactivated when a rear-facing child seat must be installed on the front passenger seat. This should only be done in exceptional cases.
To deactivate or reactivate the front airbag:

To deactivate the front passenger airbag, insert the mechanical key into the front passenger airbag ON/OFF switch and turn it to the OFF position.
Passenger front airbag OFF indicator (
) will illuminate and remain on until the front passenger airbag is reactivated.
To activate the front passenger airbag, insert the mechanical key into the front passenger airbag ON/OFF switch and turn it to the ON position. The passenger airbag off indicator will turn off and the front passenger airbag on indicator (
) will remain lit for approximately 60 seconds.
WARNING
On some models, the front passenger airbag ON/OFF switch can be turned with a similar small hard tool. Always check the status of the front passenger airbag ON/OFF switch and the passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator.
✽ NOTICE
- When the front passenger airbag ON/OFF switch is set to the ON position, the front passenger airbag is activated and a child or infant restraint must not be installed on the front passenger seat.
- When the front passenger airbag ON/OFF switch is set to the OFF position, the front passenger airbag is deactivated.
CAUTION
- If the front passenger airbag ON/OFF switch does not operate properly, the airbag warning light (
) on the instrument panel will illuminate. - And the front passenger airbag OFF indicator (
) will not illuminate (the front passenger airbag ON indicator illuminates and goes off after approximately 60 seconds). The SRS control module will reactivate the front passenger airbag, and the front passenger airbag will deploy in a frontal impact even if the front passenger airbag ON/OFF switch is set to the OFF position.
If this occurs, we recommend that the system be inspected by an authorized Kia dealer. - If the SRS airbag warning light flashes or does not illuminate when the ignition switch is turned to the ON position, or if it remains illuminated while the vehicle is being driven, we recommend that the system be inspected by an authorized Kia dealer.
WARNING
- The driver is responsible for the correct position of the front passenger airbag ON/OFF switch.
- Deactivate the front passenger airbag only when the ignition switch is off, or a malfunction may occur in the SRS control module.
There may also be a risk that the driver's and/or front passenger's and/or side and curtain airbags may not deploy or may not deploy properly during a collision. - Never install a child restraint on the front passenger seat unless the front passenger airbag has been deactivated. An infant or child may be seriously injured or killed by the airbag deployment in an accident.
- Even though your vehicle is equipped with a front passenger airbag ON/OFF switch, do not install a child restraint system on the front passenger seat. A child restraint system must never be installed on the front seat. Children who are too large for child restraint systems must always occupy the rear seat and use the available lap/shoulder belts. Children are best protected in an accident when they are properly restrained in a rear seat system.
- As soon as a child restraint is no longer required on the front passenger seat, activate the front passenger airbag.
- Never place or insert any objects into the small opening next to the side airbag label attached to the vehicle seats. When the airbag deploys, the object may affect deployment and cause an unexpected accident or personal injury.
WARNING - Do Not Attach Objects
No objects (such as an emergency warning triangle case, mobile phone holder, cup holder, air freshener, or stickers) should be located above or near the airbag modules in the steering wheel, instrument panel, windshield, and front passenger panel above the glove box. Such objects may cause injury if the vehicle is in an accident severe enough to deploy the airbags. Do not place any objects over the airbag or between the airbag and yourself.
