What to Do in an Emergency

Towing Services

~1min read

If emergency towing is required, we recommend that it be performed by an authorized Kia dealer or a commercial towing service. Correct lifting and towing procedures are necessary to prevent damage to the vehicle. The use of wheel dollies or a flatbed truck is recommended.

For information on trailer towing regulations, refer to "Trailer Towing" in Chapter 5.

The vehicle may be towed with the rear wheels on the ground (without dollies) and the front wheels lifted off the ground. If any of the load-bearing wheels or suspension components are damaged, or if the vehicle is towed with the front wheels on the ground, use a towing dolly under the front wheels.

When towing with a commercial tow truck, dollies and wheel dollies are not used; the front of the vehicle must always be raised, not the rear.

✽ NOTICE

If the EPB does not operate normally, we recommend that you take your vehicle to an authorized Kia dealer by loading the vehicle onto a flatbed truck and having the system inspected.

CAUTION

  • Do not tow the vehicle in reverse with the front wheels on the ground, as this may cause damage to the vehicle.
  • Do not tow using lifting slings. Use wheel lift or platform equipment.

When towing the vehicle in an emergency without wheel dollies:

1. Turn the ignition switch to the ACC position.

2. Move the gear shift lever to the N (Neutral) position.

3. Release the parking brake.

CAUTION

Failure to place the gear shift lever in the N (Neutral) position may cause internal transmission damage.
