If towing is required, we recommend that it be performed by an authorized Kia dealer or a commercial towing service.

If a towing service is not available in an emergency, your vehicle may be temporarily towed using a cable or chain attached to the emergency towing hook under the front (or rear) of the vehicle. Exercise extreme caution when towing the vehicle. The driver must remain in the vehicle to steer and operate the brakes. Towing in this manner should only be performed on paved roads, for a short distance and at low speed. Also, the wheels, axles, power train, steering and brakes must all be in good condition.

  • Do not use the towing hooks to tow the vehicle out of mud, sand or other conditions from which the vehicle cannot be driven out under its own power.
  • Avoid towing a vehicle that is heavier than the towing vehicle.
  • The drivers of both vehicles should communicate with each other frequently.

CAUTION

  • Attach the towing strap to the towing hook.
  • Using a part of the vehicle other than the towing hooks for towing may damage the body of your vehicle.
  • Use only a cable or chain specifically designed for towing vehicles. Securely attach the cable or chain to the towing hook provided.
  • Before emergency towing, make sure the hook is not broken or damaged.
  • Securely attach the tow strap or chain to the hook.
  • Do not jerk the hook. Apply steady and even force.
  • To avoid damaging the hook, do not pull from the side or at a vertical angle. Always pull straight forward.

WARNING

Exercise extreme caution when towing the vehicle.

  • Avoid sudden starts or erratic driving maneuvers that place excessive load on the emergency towing hook and the towing cable or chain. The hook and towing cable or chain may break and cause serious injury or damage.
  • If the damaged vehicle cannot be moved, do not continue towing by force. We recommend that you contact an authorized Kia dealer or a commercial towing service for assistance.
  • Tow the vehicle in as straight a line as possible.
  • Keep away from the vehicle during towing.
  • Use a towing strap less than 5 m (16 ft) long. Attach a white or red cloth (approximately 30 cm (12 in) wide) to the middle of the strap for better visibility.
  • Drive carefully so that the towing strap does not go slack during towing.
