High Beam Assist

~4min read

High Beam Assist is a system that automatically adjusts the headlight beam range (switching between high beam and low beam) depending on the brightness of other vehicles and road conditions.

Operating Condition

1. Set the light switch to the AUTO position.

2. Turn on the high beams by pushing the lever away from you.

3. High Beam Assist () indicator will illuminate.

4. High Beam Assist is activated when the vehicle speed exceeds 40 km/h.

5. Details on operating the light switch while high beam is on are described below.

(1) If the light switch is pressed, the High Beam Assist system turns off and the high beams are turned on.
(2) If the light switch is pulled toward you when the high beams are off, the high beams turn on without turning off the High Beam Assist system. (When you release the lever, it returns to the neutral position and the high beams turn off.)
(3) If the light switch is pulled toward you when the high beams are on with High Beam Assist, the low beams turn on and the high beams turn off.
(4) If the light switch is turned to the headlamp position ( ) from the AUTO position, the High Beam Assist system turns off and the low beams turn on.

When the High Beam Assist system is operating, the high beams automatically switch to low beams under the following conditions.

  • When an oncoming vehicle's headlamps are detected.
  • When a preceding vehicle's taillamps are detected.
  • When a bicycle or motorcycle headlamp/taillamp is detected.
  • When the surroundings are bright enough that high beams are not needed.
  • When street lights or other lights are detected.
  • When the light switch is not in the AUTO position.
  • When the High Beam Assist system is turned off.
  • When the vehicle speed is below 24 km/h.

Warning Light and Message

If the High Beam Assist system does not operate properly, a warning message will appear for several seconds. After the message disappears, the master warning light () will illuminate. Have your vehicle checked by an authorized Kia dealer.

CAUTION

The High Beam Assist system may not operate properly in the following situations:

  • When the light from an oncoming or preceding vehicle is weak
    - When the light from an oncoming or preceding vehicle is not detected due to a damaged lamp, being hidden from view, etc.
    - When the lamp of an oncoming or preceding vehicle is covered with dust, snow, or water.
    - When the vehicle's headlamps are off but the fog lamps, etc. are on.
  • When affected by external conditions
    - When there is a lamp of a similar shape to the vehicle's headlamps.
    - If the headlamps are not repaired or replaced at an authorized dealer.
    - When the headlamp aim is not properly adjusted.
    - When driving on narrow winding roads, uneven roads, or on uphill or downhill grades.
    - When only part of the preceding vehicle is visible at an intersection or curve.
    - When there is a traffic light, reflective sign, flashing sign, or mirror ahead.
    - When there is a temporary reflector or flashing light (construction site) ahead.
    - When road conditions are poor, such as wet, icy, or snow-covered roads.
    - When a vehicle suddenly appears from around a curve.
    - When the vehicle tilts due to a flat tire or when towing.
  • When forward visibility is poor
    - When the lamp of an oncoming or preceding vehicle is covered with dust, snow, or water.
    - When the light from an oncoming or preceding vehicle is not detected due to exhaust gas, smoke, fog, snow, etc.
    - When the windshield is blocked by foreign objects.
    - When visibility is poor due to fog, heavy rain, or snow, etc.

✽ NOTICE

  • Do not disassemble the front view camera temporarily for window tinting or application of any coatings and accessories. If the camera is disassembled and reassembled, have your vehicle inspected by an authorized Kia dealer to check whether the system requires calibration.
  • When replacing or reinstalling the windshield or front view camera, take your vehicle to an authorized Kia dealer and have the system checked.
  • Be careful not to allow water into the High Beam Assist control unit, and do not remove or damage system components.
  • Do not place light-reflecting objects, such as mirrors or white paper, on the instrument panel. The system may not operate properly when sunlight is reflected.
  • The High Beam Assist system may occasionally not operate due to system limitations. The system is intended for your convenience only. It is the driver's responsibility to drive safely and always check road conditions.
  • If the system does not operate normally, change the headlight position manually between high beam and low beam.
