Description and Operation
Description
The ignition coil is an induction coil in the engine ignition system that converts the low battery voltage to the high voltage required to produce an electric spark at the spark plugs to ignite the fuel. Some coils have an internal resistor, while others rely on a resistor wire or external resistor to limit the current flowing through the coil from the 12 V battery supply.
