Immobilizer System
Your vehicle is equipped with an electronic engine immobilizer system to reduce the risk of unauthorized use of the vehicle.
Your immobilizer system consists of a small transponder in the ignition key and electronic devices inside the vehicle.
With the immobilizer system, whenever you insert the ignition key into the ignition switch and turn it to the ON position, or whenever the engine start/stop button is set to the ON position, the system checks whether the ignition key is valid.
If the key is identified as valid, the engine will start.
If the key is not valid, the engine will not start.
To activate the immobilizer system:
Turn the ignition key or set the engine start/stop button from the ON position to the OFF position. The immobilizer system activates automatically. Without a valid ignition key for your vehicle, the engine will not start.
To deactivate the immobilizer system:
Insert the ignition key into the key cylinder and turn it to the ON position, or set the engine start/stop button to the ON position.
To prevent vehicle theft, do not leave spare keys in your vehicle. Your immobilizer password is unique to you and must be kept secret. Do not leave this number in the vehicle.
✽ NOTICE
When starting the engine, do not hold the key near other immobilizer keys. Otherwise, the engine may not start or may stall shortly after starting. Keep each key separate to avoid incorrect starting.
Do not place metal objects near the ignition switch.
Metal accessories may interrupt the transponder signal and prevent the engine from starting.
✽ NOTICE
If you need additional keys or have lost your keys, contact an authorized Kia dealer.
CAUTION - Immobilizer Damage
Do not expose the immobilizer system to moisture, static electricity, or rough handling. This may damage the immobilizer.
CAUTION - Alarm System Adjustment
Do not alter, modify, or adjust the vehicle's security alarm system. Improper installation of the security alarm may damage the vehicle or cause the system to malfunction.
