Parking Brake and Brake Fluid Warning Light

This indicator light illuminates:
- After you set the ignition key or ENGINE START/STOP button to the ON position.
- The light illuminates for approximately 3 seconds. - If the parking brake indicator stays on when the parking brake is applied.
- When the brake fluid level in the reservoir is low.
- If the warning light comes on with the parking brake released, it indicates that the brake fluid level in the reservoir is low.
If the brake fluid level in the reservoir is low:
1. Carefully drive to the nearest safe place and stop the vehicle.
2. With the engine off, check the brake fluid level immediately and add fluid as necessary (for more information, refer to "Brake Fluid" in Chapter 7).
Then, inspect all brake system components for fluid leaks. If a leak is detected in the brake system, the warning light remains illuminated, or the brakes do not operate properly, do not drive the vehicle.
In this case, tow the vehicle to an authorized Kia dealer for inspection.
Dual Diagonal Brake System
Your vehicle is equipped with a diagonal dual brake system. This means you still have braking on two wheels even if one of the dual systems fails.
When only one of the dual brake systems is operating, more pedal force will be required to stop the vehicle.
Additionally, the vehicle's braking distance will increase with only part of the brake system operating.
If the brakes fail while driving, downshift to a lower gear to slow the vehicle, stop the engine, and stop the vehicle as soon as it is safe to do so.
Driving the vehicle with the warning light on is dangerous. If the parking brake & brake fluid warning light comes on with the parking brake released, it indicates that the brake fluid level is low.
In this case, have your vehicle inspected by an authorized Kia dealer.
