Starting the Engine
WARNING - Proper Footwear
Always wear proper footwear when driving. Improper footwear (high heels, ski boots, sandals, etc.) may prevent you from operating the brake and accelerator pedals properly.
1. Make sure the parking brake is applied.
2. Move the gear selector lever to P (Park). Fully depress the brake pedal.
You can also start the engine when the shift lever is in N (Neutral).
3. Turn the ignition key to the START position and hold it until the engine starts (maximum 10 seconds), then release the key. Do not press the accelerator pedal when starting.
4. Do not wait for the engine to warm up while the vehicle is stationary.
Start driving at moderate engine speed. (Avoid rapid acceleration and deceleration.)
WARNING - Steering Wheel
Never reach through the steering wheel to operate any controls while the vehicle is moving. The presence of your hand or arm in this area may result in loss of vehicle control.
If the engine stalls while driving, do not attempt to shift the lever to P (Park). If traffic and road conditions allow, you may move the gear selector lever to N (Neutral) while the vehicle is moving and turn the ignition key to the START position to attempt to restart the engine.
WARNING - Starter
Do not operate the starter motor for more than 10 seconds. If the engine stalls or fails to start, wait 5-10 seconds before operating the starter again. Improper use of the starter may damage it.
