Curtain airbags are located along both sides of the roof rails above the center pillar.

They are designed to protect the heads of front seat passengers and rear side seat passengers in certain side impacts.

Curtain airbags are designed to deploy only in certain side impact collisions, depending on the severity, angle, speed, and point of impact of the crash. Curtain airbags are not designed to deploy in all side impact situations, frontal or rear collisions, or in most rollover situations.

NOTICE

If equipped with rollover sensor

  • In addition, both curtain airbags may deploy in certain rollover situations.
  • The curtain airbag may deploy when the rollover sensor detects a rollover situation.

WARNING

  • For the best protection from side and curtain airbags, front seat occupants and rear side passengers must sit upright with seat belts properly fastened. It is important that children sit in a proper child restraint in the rear seat.
  • When children sit in the rear side seats, they must be secured in a proper child restraint system. Be sure to position the child restraint system as far from the door as possible and secure the child restraint in the locked position.
  • Do not allow occupants to lean their heads or bodies against the door, rest their arms on the door, extend their arms out of the window, or place objects between the door and occupants when seated in seats equipped with side and/or curtain airbags.
  • Never attempt to open or repair any components of the side curtain airbag system. If service is required, have the system serviced by a professional workshop. Kia recommends visiting an authorized Kia dealer/service partner.
    Failure to follow the above instructions may result in injury or death to vehicle occupants in an accident.

WARNING

No attached objects

  • Do not place any objects on the airbag cover. Also do not attach objects around the area where the airbag deploys, such as the door, side window glass, front and rear pillars, or roof side rail.
  • Do not hang hard or breakable objects on the coat hook.
