Side Airbag

Your vehicle is equipped with a side airbag for each front seat. The side airbags are designed to provide the driver and front passenger with additional protection beyond that provided by the seat belt alone.

Side airbags are designed to deploy only in certain side impact collisions, depending on the severity, angle, speed, and point of impact of the crash. Side airbags are not designed to deploy in all side impact situations.

WARNING

Do not allow occupants to lean their heads or bodies against the door, rest their arms on the door, extend their arms out of the window, or place objects between the door and occupants when seated in seats equipped with side and/or curtain airbags.

NOTICE

If equipped with rollover sensor

• In addition, both side airbags may deploy in certain rollover situations.
• The side airbag may deploy when the rollover sensor determines that a rollover situation has occurred.

WARNING

• The side airbag is a supplement to the seat belt system and is not a replacement for it. Therefore, seat belts must always be worn while the vehicle is in motion. Airbags deploy only in certain side impact or rollover* conditions severe enough to cause significant injury to vehicle occupants.
• For the best side protection from the airbag system and to avoid injury from deploying side airbags, both front and rear occupants (if equipped) must sit upright with the seat belt properly fastened.
• Do not use aftermarket seat covers.
• The use of seat covers may reduce or prevent the effectiveness of the system.
• To prevent accidental side airbag deployment, which may cause injury, avoid striking the side impact sensor while the ignition is ON.
• If the seat or seat cover is damaged, have the system serviced by a professional workshop. Kia recommends visiting an authorized Kia dealer/service partner.
• Never place or insert any objects into the small opening near the side airbag or labels attached to the vehicle seat. When the airbag deploys, the object may interfere with deployment and cause an unexpected accident or personal injury.

WARNING

No attached objects

• Do not place any objects on or between the side airbag and yourself. Also, do not attach objects around the side airbag's deployment area, such as the door, side window glass, front pillar, or rear pillar.
• Do not place any objects between the door and the seat. They may become dangerous projectiles if the side airbag deploys.
• Do not install any accessories on or near the side airbags.
• Do not hang heavy objects on the coat hooks for safety reasons.
