Repair Procedures

Inspection

Engine Oil Level
  1. Warm up the engine, then stop it and wait 5 minutes.
  2. Turn the engine off and wait several minutes (about 5 minutes) for the oil to drain back into the oil pan.
  3. Pull out the dipstick, wipe it clean, and fully reinsert it.
  4. Make sure the oil level is between the "L" and "F" marks on the engine oil level dipstick.
  5. If the level is low, check for leaks and add oil up to the "F" (full) mark.
  6. Check the engine oil for white cloudiness or heavy contamination.
  7. If the engine oil appears cloudy or milky white, it is likely contaminated with engine coolant. Repair or replace the damaged parts.

  2. Drain the engine oil.
    1. Remove the oil filler cap.
    2. Remove the oil drain plug (A) and drain the oil into a container. [Kappa 1.0 MPI, 1.0 FFV]
      [Kappa 1.2 MPI]
      [Kappa 1.0 T-GDI]
  3. Replace the oil filter.
    1. Using SST (09263-02000), remove the oil filter (A).
    2. Inspect and clean the oil filter installation surface.
    3. Make sure the part number of the new oil filter is the same as the previous one.
    4. Apply clean engine oil to the gasket of the new oil filter.
    5. Lightly screw the oil filter into place, then tighten it until the gasket contacts the seat.
    6. Tighten it to the torque specified below.

      Tightening torque: 11.8–15.7 N·m

      [Kappa 1.0 MPI, 1.0 FFV]
      [Kappa 1.2 MPI]
      [Kappa 1.0 T-GDI]
  4. Install the drain plug with a new gasket.

    Tightening torque: 34.3–44 N·m

  5. Fill with new engine oil after removing the engine oil level sensor. Capacity [Kappa 1.0 MPI, 1.0 FFV] Total: 3.2 L (0.84 US gal, 3.38 US qt, 2.81 liter qt) Oil pan: 2.7 L (0.71 US gal, 2.85 US qt, 2.37 liter qt) Drain and refill, including oil filter: 2.9 L (0.77 US gal, 3.06 US qt, 2.55 liter qt) [Kappa 1.2 MPI] Total: 3.5 L (0.94 US gal, 3.75 US qt, 3.12 liter qt) Oil pan: 3.3 L (0.87 US gal, 3.49 US qt, 2.90 liter qt) Drain and refill, including oil filter: 3.5 L (0.92 US gal, 3.70 US qt, 3.08 liter qt) [Kappa 1.0 T-GDI] Total: 3.9 L (1.03 US gal, 4.12 US qt, 3.43 liter qt) Oil pan: 3.3 L (0.87 US gal, 3.49 US qt, 2.90 liter qt) Drain and refill, including oil filter: 3.6 L (0.95 US gal, 3.80 US qt, 3.17 liter qt)
  6. Install the oil filler cap.
  7. Start the engine and check for oil leaks.
  8. Recheck the engine oil level.
  9. To reset the service interval to the recommended mileage, refer to the service mode section in the owner's manual for the procedure (if applicable).
