Ignition Switch Positions

~2min read

LOCK

The steering wheel is locked to deter theft. The ignition key can only be removed in the LOCK position. After parking the vehicle, if the driver's door is opened without the ignition key being in the LOCK or ACC position, a warning chime will remind you to remove the key. Once the key is removed, the chime will stop.

ACC (Accessory)

The steering wheel is unlocked and the electrical equipment is operational.

NOTICE

If you have difficulty turning the ignition key to the ACC position, turn the key while turning the steering wheel left and right to release the tension.

ON

Warning lamps can be checked before the engine is started. This is the normal operating condition after the engine is started.

Do not leave the ignition switch ON when the engine is not running to prevent battery discharge.

START

Turn the ignition key to the START position to start the engine. The engine will crank until you release the key; the key then returns to the ON position. The brake warning light can be checked in this position.

WARNING

Ignition Lock

  • Never turn the ignition key to LOCK or ACC while the vehicle is moving. This will result in loss of steering and braking function, which may cause an accident.
  • The anti-theft steering column lock does not replace the parking brake. Before leaving the driver's seat, always check that the shift lever is in 1st gear for a manual transmission or P (Park) for an automatic transmission, fully apply the parking brake, and turn off the engine. Unexpected and sudden vehicle movement may occur if these precautions are not taken.
  • Never reach for the ignition switch or any other controls through the steering wheel while the vehicle is moving. Placing your hand or arm in this area may cause loss of vehicle control, an accident, and serious injury or death.
  • Do not place loose objects around the driver's seat where they may move during driving, interfere with the driver, and cause an accident.
