Components and Component Location

Component Location

1. Mode Control Actuator

Description and Operation

Description

The mode control actuator is located on the heater unit. It adjusts the position of the mode door using the mode control actuator based on the signal from the air conditioning control unit. Pressing the mode selection switch changes the mode control actuator in the order: vent → B/L → floor → mix.

Repair Procedures

Inspection

  1. Ignition switch OFF
  2. Disconnect the mode actuator connector.
  3. 3. Check that the mode control actuator operates in the defrost mode when 12 V is applied to terminal 3 and terminal 4 is grounded.
  4. Check that the mode actuator operates in the vent mode when the polarity is reversed.

    5. Sensor Ground
    6. Feedback Signal
    7. Sensor (+5V)
  5. Check the voltage between terminals 6 and 7.
Door Position Voltage (5-6) Fault Detection
    vent 0.45 ± 0.15 V Low voltage: 0.1 V or less
High voltage: 4.9 V or more
    Defrost 4.55 ± 0.15 V

It transmits the current position of the actuator to the control unit.
  6. If the measured voltage does not meet the specification, replace the mode actuator with a known good actuator and check for proper operation.
  7. If the problem is resolved, replace the mode actuator.

Replacement

  1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.
  2. Remove the driver airbag module assembly. (Refer to Body - "Driver Airbag Module Assembly")
  3. Disconnect the connector (A), then remove the mode control actuator (B) after loosening the mounting screws.
  4. Install in the reverse order of removal.
