What to Do in an Emergency

Tire Replacement with TPMS

~2min read

If you have a flat tire, the low tire pressure warning message will illuminate. Have the flat tire repaired at an authorized Kia dealer as soon as possible, or replace the flat tire with the spare wheel.

WARNING! Tire Sealant Agents

Never use a tire sealant not approved by Kia to repair and/or inflate a low-pressure tire. Non-approved tire sealant may damage the tire pressure sensor.

Each wheel is equipped with a tire pressure sensor installed inside the tire behind the valve stem. You must use TPMS-specific wheels. It is recommended that tire repairs always be performed by an authorized Kia dealer.

Even if you replace a low-pressure tire with the spare tire, the low tire pressure warning light will blink or stay on until the low-pressure tire is repaired and installed on the vehicle. After replacing the low-pressure tire with the spare tire, the TPMS low tire pressure warning light may blink or illuminate after a few minutes because the TPMS sensor installed on the spare wheel is not activated.

After the low-pressure tire is inflated to the recommended pressure and installed on the vehicle, or the TPMS sensor installed on the replaced spare wheel is initialized by an authorized Kia dealer, the TPMS malfunction indicator and the low tire pressure warning light will turn off after a few minutes of driving.

If the warning light does not go off after driving for several minutes, visit an authorized Kia dealer.

When replacing the originally installed tire with the spare tire, the TPMS sensor on the replacement spare wheel must be activated, and the TPMS sensor on the originally installed wheel must be deactivated. If the TPMS sensor on the original wheel stored in the spare wheel carrier is still activated, the tire pressure monitoring system may malfunction. Have the TPMS tire service or replacement performed by an authorized Kia dealer.

You may not be able to determine low tire pressure simply by looking at the tire. Always use a good-quality tire pressure gauge to measure tire pressure. Please note that a tire that is hot (from driving) will have a higher pressure reading than a tire that is cold.

A cold tire means the vehicle has been parked for 3 hours and driven less than 1.6 km (1 mile) during that 3-hour period.

Allow the tires to cool before measuring tire pressure. Always make sure the tires are cold before inflating them to the recommended pressure.

The TPMS cannot warn you of severe and sudden tire damage caused by external factors such as nails or road debris.

If you feel the vehicle becoming unstable, immediately release the accelerator pedal, apply the brake gradually and with light force, and slowly move to a safe location off the road.

✽ NOTICE

Interference, modification, or disabling of the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) may interfere with the system's ability to warn the driver of low tire pressure conditions and/or TPMS malfunctions. Tampering, modifying, or disabling TPMS components may void the warranty on this part of the vehicle.
