Bulb Replacement Precautions
Be sure to have bulbs with the appropriate ratings on hand for emergencies (see "Bulb Wattage" on page 9-07 for more information).
When replacing bulbs, first turn off the engine in a safe place, firmly set the parking brake, and disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.
WARNING
Lighting Work
Before working on the headlamp, firmly apply the parking brake, make sure the ignition switch is in the LOCK position, and turn off the lights to avoid sudden vehicle movement and burned fingers or electric shock.
Use only bulbs of the specified wattage.
WARNING
Be sure to replace a burned-out bulb with one of the same wattage. Otherwise, significant damage to the wiring and a fire may result.
CAUTION
If you do not have the necessary tools, suitable bulbs, or experience, consult a professional workshop. Kia recommends contacting an authorized Kia dealer/service partner. In many cases, replacing vehicle bulbs is difficult because other vehicle parts must be removed before you can reach the bulb. This is especially true if you need to remove the headlight assembly to reach the bulb(s). Removing/installing the headlight assembly may damage the vehicle.
CAUTION
- If non-genuine parts or low-quality bulbs are used when replacing lights, this may cause the fuse to blow and malfunction, as well as other wiring damage.
- Do not install additional lamps or LEDs on the vehicle. If additional lamps are installed, the lamp may malfunction and the lights may flicker. In addition, the fuse box and other labels may be damaged.
• Malfunction of part of the lamp due to a network failure
The headlight, tail light and fog lights may come on when the headlight switch is on and may not come on when the tail light or light switch is turned on. This may be caused by a network failure or a malfunction of the vehicle's electrical control system. If there is a problem, have the system serviced at a professional workshop. Kia recommends visiting an authorized Kia dealer/service partner.
• Partial bulb malfunction due to electrical control system stabilization
A properly working lamp may flicker briefly. This momentary phenomenon occurs as the vehicle's electrical system stabilizes. If the lamp soon returns to normal, the vehicle does not require service.
However, if the lamp goes out after brief flickering or the flickering continues, have the system serviced at a professional workshop. Kia recommends visiting an authorized Kia dealer/service partner.
NOTICE
- If the bulb or bulb connector is disconnected from the lamp, the electronic control unit of the fuse box may detect it as a malfunction because the lamp is electrically activated. Therefore, the lamp malfunction history may be recorded as a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) in the fuse box.
- This is normal, the operation indicator may flash temporarily. Since this occurrence is related to the vehicle's electronic control unit stabilization function, if the lamp turns on normally after flashing temporarily, there is no problem with the vehicle. However, if the lamp continues to flash several times or turns off completely, there may be a fault in the vehicle's electronic control unit. In this case, immediately contact a professional workshop to inspect the vehicle. Kia recommends visiting an authorized Kia dealer/service partner.
NOTICE
We recommend adjusting the headlamp aim after an accident or after the headlamp assembly is reinstalled by an authorized Kia dealer.
NOTICE
You may find moisture inside the lamp lens after washing the vehicle or driving in the rain. This is a natural phenomenon caused by the temperature difference between the inside and outside of the lamp and does not indicate a problem with its function. The moisture inside the lamp will disappear if you drive the vehicle with the headlamp turned on; however, the removal rate may vary depending on the size/location/condition of the lamp. If moisture continues to remain inside the lamp, Kia recommends contacting an authorized Kia dealer/service partner.
NOTICE
Traffic Change (for Europe)
The low beam light distribution is asymmetrical. If you drive to a country with opposite traffic direction, this asymmetrical feature will dazzle the drivers of oncoming vehicles. To prevent glare, ECE regulations require several technical solutions (for example, an automatic switching system, a sticker directing light downward). These headlamps are not intended to dazzle oncoming drivers. Therefore, you do not need to change the headlamps in a country with opposite traffic direction.
