Passenger Front Airbag ON/OFF Switch

The front passenger airbag can be deactivated using the front passenger airbag ON/OFF switch if a child restraint is installed on the front passenger seat or if the front passenger seat is not occupied. For your child's safety, the front passenger airbag must be deactivated when a rear-facing child seat must be installed on the front passenger seat. Only in exceptional circumstances.

❈ The actual indicator in the vehicle may differ from the one shown in the illustration.
To deactivate or reactivate the passenger front airbag:
To deactivate the front passenger airbag, insert the mechanical key into the front passenger airbag ON/OFF switch and turn it to the OFF position. The passenger airbag off indicator (
) will illuminate and remain on until the front passenger airbag is activated.
To reactivate the passenger front airbag, insert the mechanical key into the passenger front airbag ON/OFF switch and turn it to the ON position. The passenger front airbag OFF indicator will turn off, and the passenger front airbag ON indicator (
) will remain on for approximately 60 seconds.
WARNING
On some models, the front airbag ON/OFF switch may be operated with a similar small hard tool. Always check the status of the passenger front airbag ON/OFF switch and the passenger front airbag ON/OFF indicator.
NOTICE
- When the front passenger airbag ON/OFF switch is in the ON position, the front passenger airbag is activated and a child or child seat must not be installed on the front passenger seat.
- When the front passenger airbag ON/OFF switch is in the OFF position, the front passenger airbag is deactivated.
CAUTION
- If the front passenger airbag ON/OFF switch does not operate properly, the airbag warning light (
) on the instrument panel will illuminate.
If the passenger airbag off indicator (
) does not illuminate (the passenger airbag on indicator illuminates and goes off after approximately 60 seconds), the SRS control module will reactivate the front passenger airbag, and the front passenger airbag will deploy in a frontal collision even if the front passenger airbag ON/OFF switch is in the OFF position. In this case, have the system inspected by a qualified service shop. Kia recommends visiting an authorized Kia dealer/service partner. - If the SRS airbag warning light flashes or does not illuminate when the ignition switch is turned to the ON position, or if it illuminates while the vehicle is being driven, have the system inspected at a qualified service shop. Kia recommends visiting an authorized Kia dealer/service partner.
WARNING
- The driver is responsible for the correct position of the passenger front airbag ON/OFF switch.
- Deactivate the passenger front airbag only when the ignition switch is off; otherwise, a malfunction may occur in the SRS control module. There may also be a risk that the driver and/or front passenger and/or side and curtain airbags may not deploy or may deploy incorrectly during a collision.
- Never install a rear-facing child restraint on the front passenger seat unless the front passenger airbag has been deactivated. An infant or child may be seriously injured or killed by airbag deployment in the event of an accident. • Even if your vehicle is equipped with a front passenger airbag ON/OFF switch, never install a child restraint on the front passenger seat. A child restraint should never be placed in the front seat. Children who are too large for child restraints should always sit in the rear seat and use the available lap/shoulder belts. Children are provided the greatest safety in an accident when they are secured by a proper restraint system in the rear seat.
- As soon as a child seat is no longer needed on the front passenger seat, reactivate the passenger front airbag.
- Never place or insert any objects in the small opening next to the side air bag or near the labels attached to the vehicle seats. When the air bag deploys, the object may affect deployment and cause an unexpected accident or personal injury.
WARNING
No attached objects
Do not place any objects (such as an emergency hazard cover, cell phone holder, cup holder, air freshener or stickers) over or near the steering wheel airbag modules, instrument panel, windshield, or passenger-side instrument panel above the glove box. Such objects may cause injury if the vehicle is involved in a collision severe enough to deploy the airbags. Do not place any objects on the airbag or between the airbag and yourself.
