Operation and maintenance

Periodic Maintenance Schedule

~14min read

CAUTION

  • Perform periodic maintenance at the required intervals and mileages.

  • If a visual inspection or functional measurement shows that the system does not operate correctly (performance), adjust, clean or replace the necessary parts.

(Check and replace the air cleaner filter if necessary)

Emission Control System and Related Systems

The ignition system and fuel supply system are very important for the emission control system and for proper engine operation. Do not tamper with them.

All inspections and adjustments should be performed by a specialist service.

We recommend an authorized Mazda dealer.

Notes:

*1 In the countries listed below, replace the spark plugs every 10,000 km or 12 months, which is more often than the periodic maintenance schedule specifies.

Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Latvia, North Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, Ukraine *2 When driving the vehicle in sandy or heavily dusty areas, clean or replace the air cleaner filter more often than the periodic maintenance schedule specifies.

*3 Perform fuel injector correction.

*4 Also check the air conditioning drive belts, if the air conditioning is installed.

If the vehicle is used mainly under the conditions listed below, check the drive belts every 20,000 km or 12 months.

a) Driving on dusty roads

b) Engine often idles or runs at low speed

c) Frequent driving in low temperatures or only on short trips

d) Driving in extreme heat

e) Driving in mountainous conditions

*5 For SKYACTIV-G 1.5 models, the flexible engine oil change schedule may only be used in certain European countries. For details, consult an Authorized Mazda Dealer. The flexible engine oil change schedule may be used if the vehicle is mainly driven under conditions other than those listed below

a) Vehicle used as a police car, taxi or driving school car.

b) Driving on dusty roads

c) Engine often idles or runs at low speed

When the flexible engine oil change schedule is selected, the engine control module calculates the remaining oil life based on engine operating conditions, and the driver is informed that the oil must be changed by the illuminated maintenance light with the wrench symbol in the instrument cluster.

Replace the engine oil and filter when the maintenance required light illuminates in the instrument cluster. Replacement is necessary at least once a year or within 20,000 km of the last oil and filter change.

Resetting the oil life data is necessary each time the engine oil is replaced, regardless of whether the maintenance message/light is displayed.

*6 If the vehicle is mainly driven under the conditions listed below, replace the engine oil and oil filter every 10,000 km or more often.

a) Vehicle used as a police car, taxi or driving school car.

b) Driving on dusty roads

c) Engine often idles or runs at low speed

d) Frequent driving in low temperatures or only on short trips

e) Driving in extreme heat

f) Driving in mountainous conditions

*7 For SKYACTIV-D 1.5, reset the engine oil data after replacing the oil.

*8 When replacing the engine coolant, FL-22 coolant is recommended. Using any coolant other than FL-22 may cause serious damage to the engine and cooling system.

*9 Check the electrolyte level and specific gravity, and the external condition of the battery. A maintenance-free battery only requires checking of its external condition.

*10 If the brakes are used heavily (for example, during continuous fast driving or driving in mountains), or if the vehicle is operated in an extremely humid climate, replace the brake fluid once a year.

*11 Tire rotation is recommended every 10,000 km.

*12 For the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) to operate correctly (depending on equipment), its configuration must be performed.

*13 Check the expiry date of the tire emergency repair kit sealant each year during periodic maintenance. Replace the tire emergency repair kit sealant with a new one before its expiry date.

Maintenance Monitor

Maintenance Monitor (Audio System Type A/Type B)

This system offers the option of using a flexible engine oil change schedule*1. For details, consult an Authorized Mazda Dealer*2. When the flexible engine oil change schedule is selected, the maintenance reminder light in the instrument cluster will illuminate when the remaining oil life is less than 500 km or the number of days remaining until the next oil change is less than 15 (whichever occurs first).

Reset Method

With the ignition off, press and hold the TRIP button, then turn the ignition on.

Continue holding the TRIP button for more than 5 seconds. The main warning light will flash for several seconds once the reset is complete.

*1 The flexible engine oil change schedule is available only on some models. Depending on engine operating conditions, its control module calculates the remaining oil life.

*2 When the flexible engine oil change schedule is selected, the system's parameters must be reset at every engine oil change, regardless of whether the maintenance reminder light is displayed.

Maintenance Monitor (Audio System Type C/Type D)

1. Select the iconon the
home screen and display the Apps screen.

2. Select "Maintenance" to display the maintenance item list screen.

3. Select the setting item you want to change on the screen.

On the configuration screen, the settings can be adjusted as follows:

Tab Item Description
Periodic maintenance Setting The notification can be turned on/off.
Time (in months) Displays the time or distance remaining until the maintenance is due.

Select this item to set the maintenance interval.

The red "Maintenance Required!" message is displayed together with the maintenance reminder light in the instrument cluster when the remaining distance is less than 500 km or the remaining number of days is less than 15 (whichever occurs first). Distance (in miles or kilometers) Reset Resets the time and distance to their initial values.

After the system is turned on, it must be reset after each maintenance is performed. Tire Rotation Setting The notification can be turned on/off. Distance (in miles or kilometers) Displays the distance at which tire rotation is required.

Select this item to set the distance until the next tire rotation.

The red "Tire Rotation Due!" message is displayed together with the maintenance reminder light in the instrument cluster when the remaining distance is less than 500 km. Reset Resets the distance to its initial value.

After the system is turned on, it must be reset after each tire rotation is performed. Oil change Setting*1 The notification can be turned on/off. Distance (in miles or kilometers) Displays the distance at which an oil change is required.

Select this item to set the distance until the next oil change.

The "Oil Change Due!" message in red appears along with the maintenance reminder (wrench) indicator in the instrument cluster when the remaining distance is less than 500 km. Reset*2 Resets the distance to its initial value.

After turning on the system, it is necessary to reset it after each oil change.

*1 The flexible engine oil change schedule is available on certain models only. For details, consult an Authorized Mazda Dealer.

When the flexible engine oil change schedule is selected, the following items are shown on the display. The engine control module calculates the remaining oil life based on engine operating conditions, and the driver is notified that an oil change is required by the maintenance reminder (wrench) indicator in the instrument cluster.

*2 Each time the engine oil is changed, on SKYACTIV-D 1.5 models the oil parameters stored in the engine control module must be reset.

The engine control module can be reset by an Authorized Mazda Dealer, or you can refer to the engine control module reset procedure on page 6-27.

Tab Item Description
Oil change Oil life remaining (%) Shows the remaining engine oil life at which an oil change is required.

The "Oil Change Due!" message in red appears along with the maintenance reminder (wrench) indicator in the instrument cluster when the remaining oil life is less than 500 km or fewer than 15 days remain, whichever comes first. Reset Restores the remaining oil life value to 100%.

The system must be reset after every engine oil change.
