Controls
Temperature control dial
(Type A/Type B/Type C)
This dial adjusts the temperature.
Turn the dial clockwise for warmer air and counterclockwise for cooler air.
(Type D)
This dial adjusts the air temperature when using the air conditioning. Turning it counterclockwise activates cold air.
Fan Speed Dial
This dial changes the fan speed.
0 - Fan off
1 - Low speed
2 - Medium-low speed
3 - Medium-high speed
4 - High speed
Air distribution selector dial
Turn the dial to select the air distribution mode (page 5-4).
CAUTION
The dial can be set to intermediate positions (
)
between the indicated directions.Set the dial to an intermediate position if you want to split the airflow between two modes.
For example, if the dial is at position
between the
positions
and
, the amount of air
delivered to the footwells is smaller than at position
.
A/C Switch (Type A/Type C/Type D)
Press the A/C switch to turn on the air conditioning. The indicator light on the switch will illuminate if the fan speed dial is set to position 1, 2, 3 or 4.
Press the switch again to turn off the air conditioning.
CAUTION
The air conditioning may not operate when the outside temperature drops below 0 °C.
Air Intake Mode Switch (Type A/Type B)
This switch selects the source of air entering the cabin.
Press the switch to select outside air intake or recirculation.
Air recirculation
Outside air intake is closed.
Air inside the vehicle is recirculating.
Outside Air Intake
Outside air may flow into the vehicle body. Use this mode for ventilation and to defog the windows.
WARNING
Do not use recirculation in low temperatures or in rain: using recirculation in these conditions is a safety hazard because it causes the windows to fog up.
Reduced visibility may lead to a serious accident.
Air Intake Mode Switch (Type C/Type D)
This slider controls the air intake source into the vehicle.
Under normal conditions, we recommend using outside air intake.
Air recirculation
Outside air intake is closed.
Air inside the vehicle is recirculating.
Outside Air Intake
(Type C)
Outside air is blown into the vehicle. Use this setting for normal ventilation and heating of the vehicle.
(Type D)
Outside air is blown into the vehicle. Use this setting for normal ventilation.
WARNING
Do not use the
setting in
low temperatures or in rain: using the
position in
low temperatures or in rain is a safety hazard because it causes the windows to fog up. Reduced visibility may lead to a serious accident.
Heating*
1. Set the air distribution selector dial to
.
2. (Type A/Type B) Set the air intake mode switch to the outside air intake position.
(Type C) Set the air outlet slider to the position
.
3. Set the temperature control dial to the "hot" position.
4. Set the fan speed control dial to the desired speed.
5. (Type A/Type C) Turn on the air conditioning if you want to heat the interior and dehumidify the air.
CAUTION
If the windows fog up quickly, set the air distribution selector dial to the
position. (Type A/Type C) If you want cooler air directed to the upper body, set the dial to the
position and adjust the temperature
for maximum comfort.Air blown onto the feet is warmer than air blown onto the upper body (except when the temperature control dial is set to maximum or minimum temperature).
(Type A/Type B) In the
position, outside air intake is switched on automatically. Recirculation mode cannot be selected in this case.
Cooling (with air conditioning)
1. Set the air distribution selector dial to
.
2. Set the temperature control dial to the "cold" position.
3. Set the fan speed control dial to the desired speed.
4. Turn on the air conditioning by pressing the A/C switch.
5. Once cooling has started, adjust the fan speed dial and the temperature control dial as needed for maximum comfort.
CAUTION
When using the air conditioning on long uphill climbs or in heavy traffic, carefully check that the engine coolant temperature warning light is not on or flashing (page 4-40).
The air conditioning may cause the engine to overheat. If the warning light is on or flashing, turn off the air conditioning (page 7-28).
CAUTION
When maximum cooling is required, set the temperature control dial to minimum, turn on recirculation, then set the fan speed control dial to position 4.
(Type A/Type C) If you want warmer air directed to the feet, set the air distribution selector dial to the
position and adjust the
temperature for maximum comfort.Air blown onto the feet is warmer than air blown onto the upper body (except when the temperature control dial is set to maximum or minimum temperature).
Ventilation
1. Set the air distribution selector dial to
.
2. (Type A/Type B) Set the air intake mode switch to the outside air intake position.
(Type C/Type D) Set the air outlet slider to the position
.
3. Set the temperature control dial to the desired position.
4. Set the fan speed control dial to the desired speed.
Defrosting and defogging the windshield
1. Set the air distribution selector dial to
.
2. (Type C/Type D) Set the air outlet slider to the position
.
3. Set the temperature control dial to the desired position.
4. Set the fan speed control dial to the desired speed.
5. (Type A/Type C) Turn on the air conditioning if you want to heat the interior and dehumidify the air.
(Type D) Press the A/C switch to turn on the air conditioning.
WARNING
Do not use the
position to clear fog from the windshield when the temperature dial is in the cold range (Type A/Type B/Type C). Using the
position with the temperature dial set to cold air is dangerous because it may fog the outside surface of the glass. Reduced visibility may lead to a serious accident. When using the
position, turn the temperature control dial to the hot or warm air range.
Do not leave the air conditioning in the
position with the temperature dial in the cold range after the windshield has fogged up (Type D). Leaving the air conditioning in the
position with the temperature dial in the cold range after the windshield has fogged up is dangerous, because the outside surface of the windshield may fog up. Reduced visibility may lead to a serious accident.
Set the air distribution selector dial to a position other than
and
turn on the windshield wipers to clear the glass.
CAUTION
(Type A/Type C) When maximum defrosting is required, set the temperature control dial to maximum, then set the fan speed control dial to position 4.
(Type A/Type C) If you want warmer air directed to the feet, set the air distribution selector dial to the
position.(Type A/Type B) In the
position, outside air intake is switched on automatically. Recirculation mode cannot be selected in this case.
Dehumidifying the air (with air conditioning)
To speed up clearing fog from the windshield and side windows in low outside temperatures, use the air conditioning.
1. Set the air distribution selector dial to the desired position.
2. (Type A) Set the recirculation switch to the outside air intake position.
(Type C/Type D) Set the air outlet slider to the position .
3. Set the temperature control dial to the desired position
.
4. Set the fan speed control dial to the desired speed.
5. Turn on the air conditioning by pressing the A/C switch.
CAUTION
(Type A/Type C) One function of the air conditioning is dehumidifying the air. To use this function, do not set a low temperature. If you want to dehumidify the air, set the temperature control dial to the desired position (warm or cold), then turn on the air conditioning.
