WARNING

Check that the adjustable seat components are locked: Failure to lock the seat and/or seatback may compromise safety. In a sudden stop or collision, the seat or seatback may move, causing injury. Check that the adjustable seat components are locked by trying to move the seat forward and backward and by pushing on the seatback.

Never allow children to adjust the seat: Allowing children to adjust the seats may compromise safety, as it may lead to serious injury if a child's hands or legs become trapped by the seat.

Do not drive with an unlocked seatback: Seatbacks play an important role in protecting vehicle occupants.

Leaving the seatback unlocked compromises safety in a sudden stop or collision, as occupants may be thrown out of position or struck by luggage, which may result in serious injury. After every change of seatback angle, even when no one is seated, make sure the seatback is locked.

Adjust the driver's seat only while the vehicle is stopped: Adjusting the driver's seat while driving compromises safety. The driver may lose control of the vehicle and cause an accident.

Do not modify or replace the front seats: Modifying or replacing the front seats, including replacing the upholstery and/or loosening any bolts, compromises safety. The front seats contain SRS airbag system components that are necessary for its proper operation. Any modification may damage the SRS system and cause serious injury. If the front seats need to be removed or replaced, contact an Authorized Mazda Dealer.

Do not use the vehicle if the front seats are damaged: Driving with damaged front seats compromises safety. Collisions, even those that do not deploy the airbags, may damage the front seats, which contain SRS airbag system components. In a subsequent collision this may cause the airbag not to deploy, resulting in injury. After every road accident, contact an Authorized Mazda Dealer to have the front seats, seat belt pretensioners and airbags inspected.

Do not drive with the seatback reclined too far: Driving with the seatback in a significantly reclined position compromises safety, as the seat belts will not provide full protection. In a sudden stop or collision, you may slide out from under the belt and suffer serious injury. For maximum safety, sit upright with your back firmly against the seatback.

Do not place any objects, such as a cushion, between the seatback and your back: Placing objects such as a cushion between your back and the seatback compromises safety, as you will not be able to maintain a safe position while driving, and the seat belt will not be able to function fully in a collision, which may result in serious or even fatal injury.

Do not place any objects under the seat: Such objects could become jammed and prevent the seat from being securely fastened, which may lead to an accident.

Do not place luggage or objects above the height of the rear seatbacks: Loading cargo or other luggage above the seatback height compromises safety. In a sudden stop or collision, objects may shift and injure occupants.

Before driving, check that luggage and cargo are securely fastened: Unsecured luggage compromises safety while driving, as in a sudden stop or collision it may move and cause injury to occupants.

Never allow a passenger to sit or stand on a folded seatback while driving: Driving with a passenger on a folded seatback is dangerous. Carrying children on a folded seatback is especially dangerous. In a sudden stop or even a minor collision, a child who is not seated properly with the seat belt fastened or in a child restraint may be thrown forward, backward or even out of the vehicle, risking serious injury or death. A child may also fall into the luggage compartment or onto other occupants, risking serious injury.

Never give children car keys or allow them to play in the car (Sedan): Playing with the folding rear seat is dangerous. Once the seatback is upright, a child who has climbed into the luggage compartment during play may not be able to get out the way they came in. If you have young children, always lock the rear seatback.

Always keep the car locked and store the keys in a safe place out of children's reach (Sedan): Leaving the car unlocked or the keys where children can reach them is a safety hazard. Children who climb into the luggage compartment through a folded rear seatback or an open trunk may become accidentally trapped inside. This can result in death or brain damage from overheating, especially in summer. Always lock the doors and the trunk lid, and keep the rear seatback locked regardless of whether children are present.

CAUTION

  • When adjusting the seat, keep your hands and fingers away from moving seat parts and the side trim of the seat to avoid injury.
  • Before moving the seats, make sure there are no objects in their path. Moving the seats may damage objects near them.
  • To return a reclined front seatback to the upright position, pull up the lever while holding the seatback with your other hand. If the seatback is not held, its sudden forward movement may cause injury.

CAUTION

When returning the rear seat to its normal driving position, make sure the seat belt is routed correctly. Check that the seat belt extends and retracts freely.
