Integrated child seat (ICS)
The integrated child seat of the Mercedes E-Class (4th generation W212, 2009–2016) combines comfort and safety. This article explains how to use the seat and which additional features, such as the IKS catch tray, enhance protection. The well-thought-out design makes daily use easier. Mercedes-Benz ensures safe travel for your children.
Important Safety Notes
WARNINGIf the integrated child seat or the IKS catch tray has been modified, damaged or subjected to stress in an accident, it may not protect as intended. The child may then not be restrained in an accident, during braking maneuvers or during sudden changes of direction. There is an increased risk of injury or even risk to life!
Replace a modified, damaged or accident-stressed integrated child seat or IKS catch tray immediately. Use the IKS catch tray only with the original cover or with a cover released by the manufacturer, and do not use protective covers.
WARNINGIf the IKS catch tray is exposed to direct sunlight or heat, parts can become very hot. Children can burn themselves on these parts, especially on metal parts. There is a risk of injury!
When you leave the vehicle with the child, always protect the IKS catch tray from direct sunlight and heat. If the IKS catch tray has been exposed to direct sunlight, let it cool down before you secure the child with it. Never leave children unattended in the vehicle.
Observe the notes on the IKS catch tray .
The integrated child seats are built into the seat cushions of the outer rear seats. In combination with the components listed in the following table, they comply with the statutory requirement ECE-R44.04. Recommendation for weight group I: from 24 months up to 18 kg
Weight group I: 9 to 18 kg| Integrated child seat | IKS catch tray | Side head restraint |
|---|---|---|
| extended | mandatory | mandatory |

| extended | not permitted | recommended |
Mercedes-Benz recommends the integrated child seat for children from 24 months of age up to a body weight of 36 kg.
Children from 24 months of age up to a body weight of approx. 18 kg: The use of an additional IKS catch tray and a side head restraint approved for the integrated child seat is mandatory.
Note that children younger than 24 months require a different suitable child restraint system.
When the integrated child seat is occupied, only drive with the head restraint correctly adjusted. The back of the head must be supported at eye level by the center area of the head restraint.
WARNINGIf head restraints are not installed and correctly adjusted, they cannot provide protection as intended. There is an increased risk of injury to the head and neck area, e.g. in an accident or during braking maneuvers!
Always drive with the head restraints installed. Before each journey, make sure for every vehicle occupant that the center of the head restraint supports the back of the head at eye level.
