Tire pressure. Tire pressure loss warning
The tire pressure loss warning of the Mercedes E-Class (4th generation, W212, 2009–2016) helps the driver detect dangerous pressure loss. This section explains how it works, its operating limits, and how to correctly restart the system after changes to tire pressure or a tire change.
General Notes
While driving, the tire pressure loss warning monitors the set tire pressure using the wheel speed. This allows the system to detect a significant loss of pressure in one wheel. If the wheel speed changes due to decreasing tire pressure, a corresponding warning message appears in the multifunction display. You can recognize the tire pressure loss warning in the multifunction display in the Service menu by the message Tire pressure monitoring active Restart with OK. For information on displaying the message, see the section "Restarting the tire pressure loss warning".
Important Safety Notes
The tire pressure loss warning does not warn you of incorrectly set tire pressure. Observe the notes on recommended tire pressure. The tire pressure loss warning does not replace regular tire pressure checks. A gradual pressure loss in several tires cannot be detected by the tire pressure loss warning.
The tire pressure loss warning cannot warn you of a sudden loss of air, for example caused by a foreign object piercing the tire. In this case, brake the vehicle carefully to a stop. Do not make any sudden steering movements. The tire pressure loss warning works with limitations or with a delay when
- snow chains are fitted to your vehicle
- winter road conditions are present
- you drive on loose surfaces (e.g. sand or gravel)
- you drive very sportily (with high cornering speed or strong acceleration)
- you tow a very heavy or large trailer
- you drive with a roof load or heavy loading.
Restart the tire pressure loss warning
Restart the tire pressure loss warning when you- you have changed the tire pressure
- you have changed wheels or tires
- you have fitted new wheels or tires.
Before restarting, make sure the tire pressure on all four tires is correctly set for the respective operating situation. You can find the recommended tire pressure in the tire pressure table on the fuel filler flap. The tire pressure loss warning can only warn reliably if you have set the correct tire pressure. If an incorrect tire pressure is set, this incorrect value is monitored.
