Fitting the spare wheel on the Mercedes E-Class (4th generation, W212, 2009–2016) is described step by step in this section. Important notes on the correct sequence and on tightening the wheel nuts safely help you avoid risks and continue your journey safely.

Important Safety Notes

WARNING

The wheel and tire dimensions and tire type of the temporary spare or spare wheel and of the wheel to be replaced may differ. If you fit the temporary spare or spare wheel, driving characteristics may be significantly impaired. There is a risk of accident!

To avoid risks,
  • adapt your driving style and drive carefully
  • never fit more than one temporary spare or spare wheel that differs from the wheel to be replaced
  • use a temporary spare or spare wheel that differs from the wheel to be replaced only for a short time
  • do not switch off ESP
  • have a temporary spare or spare wheel of a different size replaced at the next qualified specialist workshop. Be sure to observe the correct wheel and tire dimensions and tire type.
When using a temporary spare wheel or a spare wheel of a different size, do not exceed the maximum speed of 80 km/h.

Snow chains must not be fitted to temporary spare wheels.

General Notes

Check the tire pressure of the temporary spare wheel regularly and before every long trip, and adjust it if necessary. The value stated on the wheel applies. The tire pressure of the temporary spare wheel can also be found under "Technical data".

You may also fit a temporary spare wheel against the direction of rotation. Observe the time-limited use and the speed limit indicated on the temporary spare wheel.

Replace tires after six years at the latest, regardless of wear. This also applies to the temporary spare wheel.

Info

While driving on a temporary spare wheel, the tire pressure loss warning or tire pressure monitoring may not function reliably. Restart the tire pressure loss warning/tire pressure monitoring only after the defective wheel has been replaced with a new wheel.

Vehicles with tire pressure monitoring: When the temporary spare wheel is fitted, the system may still display the tire pressure of the removed wheel for a few minutes. The value displayed at the position of the fitted temporary spare wheel then does not correspond to the current tire pressure of the temporary spare wheel.

Stowing a used "Collapsible spare wheel"

Note Only place the "Collapsible spare wheel" in the vehicle when it is dry. Otherwise, moisture may enter the vehicle.

To stow a used "Collapsible spare wheel", carry out the following steps. Otherwise, it will not fit into the spare wheel well. Mercedes-Benz recommends having this work carried out at a qualified specialist workshop, e.g. a Mercedes-Benz Service Center.

Unscrew the valve cap from the valve.

Using the back of the valve cap, unscrew the valve insert from the valve and let the air escape.

Info

Fully deflating the tire may take several minutes.

Screw the valve insert back into the valve.

Screw the valve cap back on.

Remove the protective film from the tool kit and pull it over the "Collapsible spare wheel".

Stow the "Collapsible spare wheel" in the spare wheel well under the luggage compartment/cargo area.

The instructions for using the jack on the Mercedes E-Class W212 (model years 2009–2016) emphasize the importance of positioning it safely and precisely. The jack may only be placed at the designated points to prevent damage to the body or chassis.

Mercedes recommends always checking the tool kit and the instructions before using the jack. This ensures safety during a wheel change.

The combination of high-quality materials and well-considered design makes the E-Class jack particularly reliable and easy to handle.
