To check that the system has been correctly repaired:

  • No electrical fault must be present.
  • Adaptations must have been carried out.
  • Engine must be warm (minimum 75 °C).
  • Run at idle with all consumers switched on for 15 minutes.

If the fault returns, continue the diagnosis.

  • Carry out the catalytic converter diagnosis using the appropriate after-sales service.
DF065 PRESENT OR STORED MISFIRE

1.DEF: Destructive misfires
2.DEF: Polluting misfires

INSTRUCTIONS

If the following faults are present or stored, deal with them first:

  • Ignition: DF072, DF073, DF074 and DF075.
  • Fuel supply circuit: DF026, DF027, DF028, DF029 and DF085.
  • Flywheel signal: DF005 and DF125.
  • Camshaft sensor and phaser: DF080 and DF097.
  • Cylinder misfires: DF059, DF060, DF061 and DF062.

Conditions for applying the diagnosis on a stored fault: The fault is declared present under the following conditions:

  • No electrical fault present
  • Adaptations completed
  • Engine warm (minimum 75 °C)
  • Run at idle with all consumers switched on for 15 min.
Check the injectors.

Check the condition and conformity of the spark plugs.

Check the ignition coils.

Check the fuel conformity.

If the problem is still present, carry out the following checks:
  • check the crankshaft sensor,
  • check the condition and cleanliness of the flywheel,
  • check the mounting of the crankshaft sensor,
  • check the air gap between sensor and flywheel,
  • check the cylinder compressions,
  • check the complete fuel supply circuit (see the Repair Manual),
  • check the complete ignition system (see the Repair Manual),
  • check the hydraulic tappets if there is camshaft noise (see the Repair Manual).
If the problem persists, deal with the other faults, then carry out the conformity check.

AFTER REPAIR

Make sure all faults have been addressed.

Do not clear the adaptations.

DF072 PRESENT OR STORED IGNITION COIL CIRCUIT CYLINDER 1

CO.0: Open circuit or short to ground
CC.1: Short to +12 V

INSTRUCTIONS

If faults DF046, DF084 or DF085 are present or stored, address them first.

If the "Ignition coil circuit cylinder 4" fault is also present or stored, address it first.

Conditions for applying the diagnosis on a stored fault: The fault is declared present following starter operation for 10 seconds, or a 10-second engine-running delay.

Disconnect the connector of the ignition coil on cylinder 1.

Check the cleanliness and condition of the ignition coil and its connector.

Check the primary and secondary resistance of the ignition coil on cylinder 1 (see the values in the "Help" chapter).

If the values are not within specification, replace the ignition coil.

Disconnect the battery and the injection ECU.

Check the connector for cleanliness and condition.

Connect the "universal breakout box" in place of the ECU and check the insulation and continuity of the following link:

ECU pin M4, connector C → Coil 1
Coil 4 → Coil 1

(See the connector pin number in the relevant wiring diagram.)

If the problem persists, replace the faulty ignition coil.
If the problem persists, deal with the other faults, then carry out the conformity check.

AFTER REPAIR

Run the "Diagnostic application condition on stored fault":

  • If the fault is present, continue troubleshooting the fault.
  • If the fault is stored, disregard it.

Deal with any other faults.

Clear the stored faults.
