Protection and Switching Unit connector PPM1 pin 1 → Camshaft phaser solenoid valve

Reconnect the Protection and Switching Unit connector and reconnect the battery.

If there is still no +12 V at the camshaft phaser solenoid valve connector with ignition on, there is a fault in the Protection and Switching Unit.

Contact the Techline

Disconnect the battery.

Disconnect the ECU. Check the cleanliness and condition of the connector.

Use the "Universal breakout box". Check insulation and continuity of the following connection:

ECU pin L3, connector B → Camshaft phaser solenoid valve

(see the connector pin numbers in the corresponding wiring diagram)

If the problem persists, replace the camshaft phaser solenoid valve.
If the fault is still not resolved, there is most likely a mechanical problem in the camshaft phaser system.

Refer to the appropriate chapter in the Repair Manual.

AFTER REPAIR

Restart the conformity check from the beginning.

PR095 KNOCK CORRECTION

Check the tightening of the downstream oxygen sensor.
If the vehicle is driven mostly in town, carry out a decarbonising (fouling of the oxygen sensors and catalytic converter).
Check that the exhaust line is perfectly sealed.
Replace the downstream oxygen sensor.
If the problem persists, the catalytic converter is most likely damaged.
If the catalytic converter is faulty, the cause of its failure must be determined, otherwise the new catalytic converter may be damaged.
Remove the catalytic converter.
The following are causes of catalytic converter failure:
  • deformation (impact),
  • thermal shock (splashing cold water on a hot catalytic converter can cause it to fail),
  • injector or ignition fault: fuel contact damages the catalytic converter (faulty coil, faulty coil control, injector stuck open),
  • injector leak,
  • abnormal oil or coolant consumption (faulty head gasket),
  • use of an additive or similar product (ask the customer, as this type of product can contaminate the catalytic converter and make it ineffective over time).

Check the service "history" of the vehicle or, if unavailable, ask the customer whether the vehicle has had fuel injection or ignition problems.

If the cause of the catalytic converter failure has been found and the problem resolved, replace the catalytic converter.

AFTER REPAIR

Restart the conformity check from the beginning.

Contact Techline.

IF THE PUMP DOES NOT RUN Disconnect the fuel pump.

Check the connector for cleanliness and condition.

With the ignition on, check for + 12 V at the fuel pump connector (see the pin number in the corresponding wiring diagram). If there is no + 12 V:
  • disconnect the battery,
