Overview

The Mégane II is fitted with the BOSCH 8.0 anti-lock braking system.

Depending on vehicle equipment, the BOSCH 8.0 system consists of either anti-lock braking only, or anti-lock braking combined with dynamic stability control.

IMPORTANT

After any work on the dynamic driving control system, always verify the repair by a road test and a check using the diagnostic tool.

I - DESCRIPTION OF ANTI-LOCK BRAKING WITH DYNAMIC DRIVING CONTROL

The anti-lock braking - dynamic driving control system consists of:

  • a brake booster assembly,
  • an electric pump unit consisting of:
  • a hydraulic pump,
  • a pressure modulation unit (twelve solenoid valves),
  • a control unit (ECU),
  • a pressure sensor,
  • a steering wheel angle sensor integrated into the electric power steering,
  • a combined yaw rate and lateral acceleration sensor,
  • four wheel speed sensors,
  • a push button to disconnect the dynamic driving control function.

II - OPERATING PRINCIPLE OF ANTI-LOCK BRAKING WITH DYNAMIC DRIVING CONTROL

The reference state is calculated at all times from measurements of the wheel speeds and the steering wheel angle.

The reference state represents the desired healthy behaviour.

This reference state is compared with the actual state of the vehicle, based on yaw rate and lateral acceleration measurements.

If there is a difference between the desired trajectory and the actual trajectory, the appropriate wheel is braked. The torque thus created returns the vehicle to the desired trajectory.

In some cases, traction control acts on engine torque.
