~1min read

The system assists in steering the vehicle. If the engine is off or the power steering system fails, you can still steer the vehicle, but more steering effort will be required.

If you notice any change in the steering effort required during normal driving, have the system checked by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

CAUTION

If the Electric Power Steering system does not operate normally, the warning light ( ) will illuminate on the instrument cluster. You can still steer the vehicle, but it will require greater effort. Take your vehicle to an authorized HYUNDAI dealer and have the system checked as soon as possible.

Information

The following symptoms may occur during normal vehicle operation:

  • Steering effort may be high immediately after the ignition switch is turned to the ON position. This occurs while the system performs the EPS diagnostic. When the diagnostic is complete, the steering will return to its normal condition.
  • A clicking sound may be heard from the EPS relay after the ignition switch is turned ON or OFF.
  • A motor noise may be heard when the vehicle is stopped or moving at low speed.
  • An abnormal noise may occur when steering at low temperatures. If the temperature rises, the noise will disappear. This is a normal condition.
