Removal
- Turn the crankshaft pulley clockwise and align its groove with the alignment mark on the timing chain cover.

- Remove the timing chain cover. (Refer to Valve Timing - Timing Chain Cover)
- Align the timing marks of the CVVT sprockets with the upper surface of the cylinder head so that No. 1 cylinder is at TDC.
Make sure the crankshaft locating pin is pointing up toward the engine at this time.

- Remove the timing chain (A).

Before removing the tensioner, lock the tensioner plunger in the compressed position with a pin through the hole (B).
- Remove the timing chain tensioner arm (A) and the chain guide (B).

- Remove the timing chain (A).

Inspection
Sprockets, hydraulic tensioner, chain guide, tensioner arm, timing chain- Inspect the CVVT sprocket and crankshaft sprocket teeth for abnormal wear, cracks, or damage. Replace if necessary.
- Inspect the contact surfaces of the timing chain tensioner lever and guide for excessive wear, cracks, or damage. Replace if necessary.
- Inspect the hydraulic tensioner for plunger movement and ratchet operation. Replace if necessary.
- Inspect the timing chain for elongation, excessive wear, or damage. Replace if necessary.
Installation
- The crankshaft locating pin should be at an angle of 3° relative to the vertical centerline.

- Align the TDC marks (A) of the CVVT sprockets with the upper surface of the cylinder head so that No. 1 cylinder is at TDC.

- Install new O-rings (A).

- Install the timing chain guide (A) and the timing chain (B).
Tightening torque: 9.8 ~ 11.8 N·m

- When installing the timing chain, align the alignment marks on the sprockets with the paint marks on the chain.
- Order: Crankshaft sprocket > Timing chain guide > Intake CVVT sprocket > Exhaust CVVT sprocket.
- Install the timing chain tensioner arm (A).
Tightening torque: 9.8 ~ 11.8 N·m

- Install the hydraulic tensioner (A) and remove the pin (B).
Tightening torque: 9.8 ~ 11.8 N·m

Check the top dead center (TDC) marks on the crankshaft and camshafts once more.
- Install the timing chain cover.
