Removal

  1. Loosen the drain plug (A) and drain the engine coolant. Remove the radiator cap to drain quickly.
The system is under high pressure when the engine is hot. To avoid the risk of engine coolant spraying out, remove the cap only when the engine is cool.
  2. Remove the drive belt. (Refer to Valve Timing System - "Drive Belt")
  3. Remove the water pump pulley (A).

    Tightening torque: 9.8 ~ 11.8 N·m

  4. Remove the water pump (A).

Inspection

  1. Inspect each component for cracks, damage, or wear, and replace the water pump assembly if necessary.
  2. Inspect the bearing for damage, abnormal noise, and rough rotation, and replace the water pump assembly if necessary.
  3. Check for coolant leakage. If coolant leaks from the hole, the seal is damaged. Replace the water pump assembly and gasket.
A small amount of seepage from the bleed hole is normal.

Installation

  1. Install a new gasket and the water pump (A).

    Tightening torque: 9.8 ~ 11.8 N·m

  2. Install the water pump pulley (A).

    Tightening torque: 9.8 ~ 11.8 N·m

When installing, tighten the bolts in a diagonal sequence.
  3. Remove the drive belt. (Refer to Valve Timing System - "Drive Belt")
  4. Fill the engine coolant.
  5. Start the engine and check for leaks.
  6. Recheck the engine coolant level.
