Operating the vehicle
Braking
In this manual: Operating the vehicle
~1min read
The distance needed to stop the vehicle increases with its speed. The braking distance at 60 km/h is about 4 times greater than at 20 km/h. Start braking when the distance to the stopping point is still considerable, and slow down gradually.
WARNING If water gets into the brakes, their operation may be weak and unpredictable. After driving through water or washing the underbody, check the brakes by driving at low speed to make sure they work normally. If the brakes are less effective, dry them out by braking repeatedly while driving at low speed until they regain full effectiveness.Brake Booster
This vehicle is equipped with a brake booster, also called a servo. If the booster does not work because the engine has stopped or due to another fault, the brake system remains operational on reserve power, and the vehicle can be fully stopped by pressing and holding the pedal. The reserve is partially used up each time the pedal is pressed, and it decreases with each subsequent press. Do not pump the pedal.
WARNING Even without backup power in the brake system, you can stop the vehicle by pressing the brake pedal harder than normal. However, the braking distance may increase.Test yourself
