Engine Coolant Water Pump Replacement 3S-FE

~1min read

Removal · Drain the engine coolant. Disconnect the upper radiator tank hose from the thermostat cover coolant pipe on the water pump.

· Remove the camshaft timing belt and the idler pulley.

· Remove the alternator, then remove the bolts of the lower alternator support bracket.

· Remove the two nuts securing the bypass pipe to the water pump on the front wall of the engine.

· Remove the three bolts securing the water pump to the cylinder block, then disconnect the pump from the bypass pipe and remove it from the engine compartment. Remove the bypass pipe O-ring and remove the gasket from the cylinder block.

· Place the assembly on a workbench, remove the bolts and separate the cover from the pump housing, and remove the gasket. If necessary, remove the thermostat.

Inspection · Thoroughly clean all mating surfaces and inspect the pump for wear and damage.

· Inspect the pump housing and impeller for excessive corrosion. Turn the impeller and check whether corrosion threatens its strength and whether the axial play is excessive due to wear of the end surfaces. If the bearings are significantly worn, replace the pump.

Installation · Install in the reverse order of removal. During installation, replace the O-ring and gaskets, and tighten all nuts and bolts to the specified torque. Install the camshaft timing belt, and adjust the alternator drive belt. Fill the system with engine coolant. Start the engine and, after it has warmed up, check the connections for leaks.
