Engine Coolant Water Pump Replacement 4A-FE - Inspection, Installation

~1min read

Inspection

Inspect the pump housing and impeller for excessive corrosion. Turn the impeller and check whether corrosion threatens its strength and whether the axial play is excessive due to wear of the end surfaces. If the pump bearings are excessively worn, they can be replaced; however, this work is better performed at a service station.

Installation · Install in the reverse order of removal. During installation, install new gaskets for the cover and the coolant pipe, and a new O-ring on the cylinder block. Install the pipe gasket onto the studs with the protrusion facing up.

· Tighten all nuts and bolts to the specified torque. Be sure to install the pulley onto the pump shaft before installing the pump on the cylinder block. Tighten the pulley bolts only lightly; final tightening is to be done after installing the drive belt. Install the camshaft cover.

· Fill the cooling system with coolant.

· Start the engine, and after it has warmed up, check the disturbed connections for leaks.
