Removal and installation

PROCEDURE
1. Remove the center console (refer to Subsection 11.24).
2. Remove the shift cable retainers and disconnect both shift cables from the shift lever (refer to Subsection 7.1.2).
3. Remove the mounting bolts at the base of the shift lever assembly (refer to Figure Shift Cables and Shift Lever Assembly (1993 – 1995 Model Years) or Figure Shift Cables and Shift Lever Assembly (1996 Model Year and Later)) and remove the assembly from the vehicle.

* The shift lever assembly is available in two versions, shown in the illustrations. When replacing the shift lever assembly, take the old assembly with you when purchasing a new one to ensure the correct version is obtained.

4. Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal.
