Back-up Light Switch
Inspection
PROCEDURE
1. The back-up light switch is located on top of the transmission.
2. Turn the ignition key to the ON position and select reverse gear. The switch should close the circuit and the back-up lights should illuminate.
3. If the lights do not illuminate, check the back-up light fuse (refer to Subsection 12.1).
4. If the fuse is good, check that voltage is present at the switch (with the ignition on).
5. If no voltage is present, check the connecting wires between the fuse and the switch. If voltage is present, select reverse gear and check whether the switch closes the circuit.
6. If the switch does not close the circuit, replace it. If the switch is good, check whether at least one back-up light illuminates.
7. If only one light illuminates, replace the bulb in the other light. If neither light illuminates, both bulbs may have burned out, but it is more likely that a wire is broken or there is a poor connection between the switch and the lights.
Replacement
PROCEDURE

1. Disconnect the connector from the back-up light switch (indicated by the arrow).
2. Unscrew the old switch.
3. To check the new switch before installation, connect an ohmmeter to its terminals: with the plunger pressed, the switch should conduct current; when the plunger is released, the switch should not conduct current.
4. Install the new switch and tighten it securely.
5. Connect the connector.
6. Check the switch operation.
