Clutch Disc Alignment Tool (type 084 gearbox)

Removal Warning The clutch is removed without removing the engine from the vehicle.

PROCEDURE 1. Remove the gearbox (see sub-section 5.1). 2. Mark the relative position of clutch cover 4 and flywheel 1. 3. Lock flywheel 1 by inserting a screwdriver between the teeth of the flywheel ring gear. 4. Loosen bolts 5 securing clutch cover 4 to flywheel 1 and unscrew them evenly. Caution To prevent distortion of the cover, unscrew the bolts diagonally, turning each bolt only one turn at a time. 5. Remove clutch cover 4 and clutch disc 3 from the locating pins, using a screwdriver if necessary. Checking the clutch condition PROCEDURE 1. Inspect the friction surfaces of the flywheel and pressure plate, checking for scratches, scoring, nicks and signs of wear. 2. Place a straightedge on the friction surface of the pressure plate and use a feeler gauge to check the gap between the straightedge and the surface. The gap must not exceed 0.3 mm. Otherwise, replace the pressure plate. 3. Check the wear of the friction linings. If the rivet depth is less than 0.3 mm or the friction linings are oily, the clutch disc must be replaced. 4. Check the runout of the clutch disc. If the runout exceeds 0.4 mm, replace the disc. 5. Check the wear of the inner ends of the diaphragm spring. If heavily worn areas are found, replace the clutch assembly. All diaphragm spring fingers must be at the same height within ±0.25 mm. Installation PROCEDURE 1. Clean oil and dirt from flywheel 1. 2. Install the centering arbor (see Clutch disc centering arbor (gearbox type 084)) into the crankshaft flange. 3. Install clutch disc 3 onto the arbor (see Clutch (gearbox type 084)), with the clutch disc hub facing toward clutch cover 4. 4. Install clutch cover 4 with pressure plate onto the flywheel 1 locating pins, aligning the previously made marks. 5. Install bolts 5 and tighten them evenly in a diagonal sequence to 25 N·m. 6. Check the release bearing (see sub-section 4.2.1). 7. Install the gearbox (see sub-section 5.1).
