Oil Pump
Removal PROCEDURE 1. Remove the engine oil pan (see subsection 2.2.1.10).
2. Remove the oil pump mounting bolts 21 (see illustration Engine lubrication system components), then remove the oil pump together with the oil pickup. 3. Remove the two bolts 25 and remove oil pickup 23. 4. Remove the two bolts and remove cover 20. 5. Remove shaft 19 and gear 27. 6. Remove the mesh strainer from oil pickup 23. 7. Unscrew the pressure relief valve from pump cover 20.

8. After disassembly, wash all pump parts in gasoline. Measure the backlash between the gear teeth as shown in the illustration. Backlash for new gears is 0.05 mm; maximum permitted backlash is 0.2 mm.

9. Measure the clearance between the gear and the pump body with a feeler gauge; it must not exceed 0.15 mm. Measure the gear end play as shown in the illustration; it must not exceed 0.15 mm. If the pump cover shows signs of wear from the gears, grind the cover. 10. Before assembling the pump, lubricate all parts with engine oil. Assemble the pump in the reverse order. Tighten the pump cover bolts to a torque of 10 N·m, and the pump mounting bolts to a torque of 20 N·m.
