Check whether there is fuel in the fuel tank. An empty tank is not as absurd an idea as it may seem at first. On fuel-injected engines, fuel shortage is first noticed as engine misfiring during cornering.

Faulty fuel pump.

Clogged fuel filter.

If fuel supply is normal, especially in case of persistent starting problems, check the fuel injection system.
