Removal and installation of the parking brake lever and cable

Parking brake lever with mounting parts 1 – parking brake lever. Before removal, remove the center console. 2 – lock washer 3 – parking brake lever trim. Removed toward the front 4 – nut, 25 N·m 5 – adapter. CABLE REMOVAL

Front-wheel-drive vehicles

PROCEDURE

1. Remove the rear center console. Refer to the Driver-side pocket removal and installation subsection.

2. Release the parking brake.

3. Loosen the adjusting nut so that the cable can be removed from the equalizer. Disconnect the parking brake cable.

4. Disconnect the parking brake cable at the caliper. Refer to the Rear wheel disc brake caliper removal and installation subsection.

5. Mark the position of the rear wheels relative to the hubs with paint. This allows the balanced wheel to be returned to its original position during installation. Loosen the wheel bolts with the vehicle standing on the ground. Raise the rear of the vehicle, support it on stands, and remove the rear wheels.

6. Disconnect the cable from holder (A) on the rear suspension beam and remove it from the holders.

7. Disconnect the cable from the holder (A) on the rear axle beam and remove it from the holders.

8. Remove the cable. INSTALLATION

PROCEDURE

1. Insert the cable into the guide tube.

2. Connect the cable to the caliper. Refer to Rear Wheel Disc Brake Caliper Removal and Installation.

3. Secure the cable in the holder (A) on the rear axle beam. The cable clamping ring must be seated in the center of the clamp.

4. Secure the cable in the holders on the rear axle beam.

5. Attach the cable to the parking brake lever and tighten the adjusting nut slightly.

6. Adjust the parking brake. Refer to Parking Brake Adjustment.

7. Install the rear section of the center console. Refer to Center Console Removal and Installation.
