GENERAL INFORMATION

The oxygen sensor (lambda sensor) controls the composition of exhaust gases on gasoline engines. It is screwed into the front pipe near the catalytic converter. REMOVAL

CAUTION

There is a risk involved when lifting and supporting the vehicle on stands! Therefore, first read the subsection Jacking Up the Vehicle.

PROCEDURE

1. Raise the vehicle and support it on stands.

2. Unscrew the cap of the oxygen sensor plug connector near the catalytic converter. Disconnect the electrical wire with clips at the heat shield. Remove the connector from the cap and disconnect it.

3. Unscrew the oxygen sensor from the pipe using a wrench, e.g., HAZET 4680-3.

INSTALLATION

PROCEDURE

1. Lubricate the oxygen sensor thread with AUDI "G5" special lubricant. New sensors are already coated with this lubricant.

CAUTION

Do not allow G5 to get into the sensor housing slots. Do not touch or contaminate the housing of the new sensor if possible.

2. Screw the sensor into the front pipe to torque 50 N·m.

3. Route the sensor cable in the clips and connect it. Screw on the connector cap at the underbody.

4. Lower the vehicle onto its wheels.
