Replacing Center/Intermediate Muffler
GENERAL INFORMATION
At the factory, the rear pipe and the 2 mufflers form a single assembly. However, the mufflers can be replaced separately. Separate the mufflers by cutting with a standard chain saw, e.g., HAZET 4682. If the specified tool is not available, a hacksaw can be used.
4682. If the specified tool is not available, a hacksaw can be used.
CAUTION
If the muffler does not come out of the clamp, there are two options for removing it: cut the pipe 5 cm behind the clamp, then knock off the remaining pipe stub with a chisel and hammer. Second option: if a gas cutting torch is available, heat the clamp. The pipe will expand, allowing removal. Before using the torch, cover the underbody with asbestos cloth. Never heat the muffler in the area of the plastic fuel tank. Risk of fire. Keep a fire extinguisher ready.Removal of Center/Intermediate Muffler When Combined as One Assembly
CAUTION
Risk of injury when lifting and supporting the vehicle on stands! Therefore, first read the chapter Jacking and Supporting the Vehicle.PROCEDURE
1. Raise the vehicle and support it on stands.

2. The separation point of the muffler is marked by recesses. Separate at the center marks (arrow 2). The side marks (arrows 1 and 3) serve as depth indicators for inserting the pipes into the clamp.
3. Place the splitter chain around the center marks –2– and tighten. Roll the chain in both directions while tightening it to prevent pipe deformation during cutting.
4. Disconnect the muffler from the rubber hangers and remove it. INSTALLATION
5. Insert the muffler into the rubber hangers.
6. Use a spare clamp to join the pipes.
CAUTION
Always replace previously used clamps; they must not be reused. Since pipes of different diameters are used depending on the vehicle model, observeCAUTION

8. Tighten the clamp to torque 40 N·m. Bolts must be horizontal and point to the left side of the vehicle.
