Topping up and replacing the brake fluid

~2min read

Brake fluid replacement must be carried out by a specialist.

Brake fluid absorbs moisture, so over time it takes up water from the surrounding air. Excessive water content can eventually cause corrosion damage in the brake system. It also significantly lowers the boiling point of the brake fluid. Under certain conditions, this can seriously impair braking performance.

For this reason, the brake fluid must be replaced.

Refer to the Service Schedule for the brake fluid replacement interval.

We recommend having the brake fluid replaced by an Audi workshop as part of a service. They have the special tools and replacement parts required, as well as the necessary expertise. They are also familiar with the disposal of used fluids.

Use only original brake fluid. Specialist workshops know which brake fluid is approved by the manufacturer. The brake fluid must be new.

CAUTION!

  • Always keep brake fluid in its original sealed container and out of reach of children - risk of poisoning.
  • If the brake fluid is too old, vapour bubbles can form in the brake system when the brakes are applied heavily. This reduces braking efficiency and therefore compromises road safety - risk of accident.

Warning!

Brake fluid attacks paint. Make sure it does not come into contact with your vehicle's paintwork.

Environment

If you need to drain the brake fluid, collect it and dispose of it in accordance with legal requirements.
