Safety

Tie-down eyelets

~1min read

Transported objects that are not secured pose a danger to passengers.

Tie-down eyelets for securing luggage and transported objects are located in the luggage compartment

  • Use the tie-down eyelets to secure transported objects safely, see chapter

    "Loading the luggage compartment"

In a collision or accident, even small, light objects store enough energy to cause extremely serious injuries. The amount of "energy" released depends mainly on the vehicle's speed and the weight of the objects. However, the vehicle's speed is the determining factor.

Example: A 4.5 kg object is in the vehicle and is not secured. In a frontal collision at a speed of 50 km/h, this object generates forces equal to 20 times its weight. This means that the object then exerts a force equivalent to 90 kg. Imagine the injuries such a "projectile" can cause inside the passenger compartment when it strikes an occupant.

CAUTION!

Luggage or objects secured to the tie-down eyelets with inappropriate or damaged straps can cause injuries in an accident or during braking.

  • To prevent luggage or transported objects from being thrown forward, always use suitable straps that you can securely attach to the tie-down eyelets.
  • Never secure a child seat to the tie-down eyelets.
