Washing the vehicle

~3min read

The longer insect remains, bird droppings, tree resin fallout, road dust, industrial dust, tar spots, soot particles, road salt and other aggressive deposits remain stuck to the vehicle's exterior surface, the more destructive their effect.

High temperatures (for example, intense sunlight) increase their aggressive effect.

After the freezing period, when salt is no longer spread on the roads, be sure to thoroughly wash the underbody of the vehicle.

Automatic car washes

Observe the usual precautions before driving through an automatic car wash (close the windows and sunroof). If your vehicle has special equipment such as a spoiler, roof rack or radio transmitter/receiver antenna, consult the operator of the automatic car wash.

Avoid automatic car washes with brushes.

Using high-pressure cleaners

If you use a high-pressure cleaner, be sure to observe the manufacturer's operating instructions. This applies in particular to pressure and spray distance. Maintain sufficient distance from elastic materials such as rubber hoses or insulating materials.

Never use round-jet nozzles or cleaning brushes with rotating heads.

Hand washing

If you wash the car by hand, soak it thoroughly with water to loosen the dirt, then rinse it.

Then clean your car using a soft sponge, wash mitt or wash brush, applying light pressure.

Work from top to bottom, starting with the roof. Use car shampoo only for stubborn dirt.

Rinse the sponge or wash mitt frequently.

Clean the wheels and lower door sills last. Use a second sponge for this.

CAUTION!

  • Only clean your car when the ignition is switched off - risk of accident.
  • Protect your hands and arms from sharp-edged metal parts when cleaning the underbody, the inner wheel housings or the wheel trim - risk of cuts.
  • Washing the vehicle in winter: moisture and ice in the braking system can reduce braking effectiveness - risk of accident.

Warning!

  • Do not wash your car in direct sunlight - risk of paint damage.
  • Do not use insect sponges, kitchen scouring pads, etc. - risk of damaging the paint.
  • Clean the headlights with a damp sponge or cloth, never dry. Preferably use soapy water.
  • Tyres in particular must never be cleaned with round-jet nozzles. Even if the jet is only applied for a very short time and the jet distance is relatively large, you risk damaging the tyres.

Environment

Only wash your vehicle in designated areas. This prevents oil-contaminated water from entering the drains. In some regions, it is prohibited to wash your vehicle outside designated areas.
