Before opening the engine hood, make sure the wiper arms are not raised away from the windshield, as they could damage the vehicle's paint.

  • Lift the engine hood slightly.
  • Press the release catch under the engine hood so that it points upward => fig. 217 to release the safety catch.
  • Open the engine hood.

A gas strut holds the engine hood in the open position.

CAUTION!

Never open the engine hood if you see steam or coolant escaping from the engine compartment - risk of scalding! Wait until no more steam or coolant escapes.
