In an emergency, the engine can be started using the battery of another vehicle.
If the engine will not start because the battery is discharged, you can use another vehicle's battery to start the engine, provided you have a jumper cable.
Both batteries must have a nominal voltage of 12 volts.
The capacity (Ah) of the battery supplying the current must not be much lower than that of the discharged battery.
Jumper cable
Use only jumper cables with a sufficient cross-section.
Observe the cable manufacturer's instructions.
Use only jumper cables whose clamps are insulated: positive cable, usually red.
Negative cable, usually black.
CAUTION!
- A discharged battery can freeze at 0 °C. A frozen battery must be thawed before the jumper cable is connected. Risk of explosion.
- Observe the warnings when working in the engine compartment.
Note
- There must be no contact between the two vehicles, otherwise current could flow as soon as the positive terminals are connected.
- The discharged battery must be connected to the vehicle electrical system as specified.
- If applicable, switch off the car phone or follow the instructions in the phone's operating manual for jump starting.
