All-wheel drive (quattro®)
All-wheel drive means 4-wheel drive
General information
All-wheel drive is fully automatic. Drive power is distributed to all 4 wheels. It adapts automatically to your driving style and road conditions.
The all-wheel drive concept is designed for high engine output. Your vehicle offers outstanding performance and excellent road handling, both on normal roads and on snow-covered and icy roads. It is therefore essential that you observe certain safety instructions.
Winter tyres
All-wheel drive gives your vehicle excellent traction on winter roads, even with standard tyres. Nevertheless, we recommend using winter tyres or all-season tyres on all 4 wheels in winter, as they mainly improve braking performance.
Snow Chains
Fit snow chains to all-wheel drive vehicles when their use is mandatory, see "Snow chains".
Replacing tyres
On all-wheel drive vehicles, use only tyres with the same rolling circumference, see "New wheels and tyres".
Off-road vehicle?
Your Audi is not an off-road vehicle; its ground clearance is far too low for that. Therefore avoid unpaved roads.
CAUTION!
- Your vehicle's braking performance is limited by tyre grip. It is therefore no different from that of a two-wheel-drive vehicle. Do not be tempted to drive fast on icy or slippery roads - risk of accident!
- Having all-wheel drive does not relieve you of the need to always adapt your driving to road conditions and traffic. The greater safety it provides must not encourage you to take unnecessary risks - risk of accident!
- Be aware that on wet roads the front wheels can lose grip due to aquaplaning. Unlike front-wheel-drive vehicles, the onset of aquaplaning is not signalled by a sudden increase in engine speed. Therefore drive at a speed suited to the road conditions - risk of accident!
